On 18th October, we were invited to a key event in Cambridge’s investment community calendar. The eagerly anticipated launch of Peter Cowley’s book titled The Invested Investor: The new rules for start-ups, scale-ups and angel investing.

Peter is a serial entrepreneur, seasoned angel investor, Cambridge Angel Chair, and European Business Angel Network President. James and Jonathan have known Peter professionally for years, spoken alongside him at events , and are fellow University of Cambridge Computer Science Alumni, so they were delighted to attend to show their support.

What is it all about?

This book explains the key ingredients for becoming an invested investor, how to work with angels, and guides readers through the business journey. Peter is a very honest and realistic investor, so he explains what it takes to be an angel who adds more than just money.

His hope is not necessarily to make a profit from the book, but to make the investment community better and run more smoothly for all. Peter sees it as almost a charitable endeavour!

What made the evening special?

The audience was made up of angel investors, entrepreneurs, and those interested in working with start-ups and scale-ups. It was a great chance for attendees from across the region to meet those who have been featured in both the podcasts and book.

To spark food-for-thought, and contrary to what might be expected, speakers on the night were asked to describe their business failures rather than successes. This reinforced the theme that Peter’s book is an honest account to prepare people for the world of investing.

What did we think?

This was a true celebration of a valuable resource and we were thrilled to be there. We’re always excited by the innovation which comes from the start-up community and it’s fantastic to see interest in investment thrive.
